Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot

Ch. Talbot in St. Julien ranks among the most familiar Bordeaux estates for UK wine enthusiasts – unsurprising given its historical links to John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury defeated and killed in 1453 at the battle of Castillon. After which Bordeaux and its vineyards returned to French control after more than three centuries under the British Crown.
First released in the 1960’s by 4th growth Ch. Talbot, Connetable was one of the very first “second wines” from a classified Medoc Chateau. The Commune of St. Julien is a real meeting point for the delicacy of Margaux and the power of Pauillac and Connetable is about half the price of the first wine of Chateau Talbot!

A classic blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot from 30 year old vines that are hand harvested and sorted, fermented in stainless steel and then aged if French oak barrels for 15 months. The deep colour sucks you in to the dark plum notes on the nose and lots of blueberry fruit. Tones of coffee and chocolate coming through with light vanilla, leather and mild spices! A classic quality Bordeaux combination of elegance and precision that punches well above its weight.
A charming example of affordable luxury.
