Pessac-Léognan, Château Bardins 2020 13.5% vol.
£150.00
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
The wines of Pessac- Leognan are still relatively unknown in the UK ( possibly because of our difficulty in pronouncing the name — Paysac – Lay-on-e-on ) but the upside is that high quality Bordeaux wines can be found for great value.
The vineyard of Chateau Bardins, first recorded in the famous Pierre de Belleyme map of 1760, is now run as an organic estate by the founders great grand-daughter Stella Puel. The grapes are harvested by hand and the vines average over 30 years old! From the famous Bordeaux 2020 vintage the classic blend is 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. It spends 12 months in oak barrels of which 25% are new.
Deep purple colour with an intense nose of ripe red and black fruits, vanilla and toasted almonds. A complex full bodied tasting experience of crushed red and black berries, closely knit tannins and a long succulent fruity finish. A subtle mix of power and refinement or simply – just pure class and elegance!
An absolute must for those special roast dinners, either meat or vegetarian, or indeed whenever one feels like it’s time for a spot of affordable indulgence. For all those who love Bordeaux but also for those still to discover Bordeaux.
