Pessac-Léognan, Château Bardins 2017 (6b case)

£138.00

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
The wines of Pessac- Leognan are still relatively unknown in the UK ( possibly because of our difficulty in pronouncing the name — Paysac – Lay-on-e-on ) but the upside is that high quality Bordeaux wines can be found for great value.
The vineyard of Chateau Bardins is first recorded in the famous Pierre de Belleyme map of 1760 when it was in the countryside just south of Bordeaux City. Now the city has expanded and swallowed up Ch. Bardins but the terroir has not changed and it is still a special place to grow grapes and make fine wines.
Family owned since 1903 Ch. Bardins is now run as an organic estate great grand daughter Stella Puel. The grapes are harvested by hand and the vines average over 30 years old. The blend is classic Bordeaux – 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon 25% Cabernet Franc and the wine spends 12 months plus in oak barrels of which 25% are new.

Deep intense purple colour with a bouquet of ripe red and black fruits, vanilla and toasted almonds. A complex full bodied tasting experience of crushed berries, closely knit tannins and a long fruity finish. A subtle mix of power and refinement or just simply – pure class and elegance!
An absolute must for those special roast dinners, either meat or vegetarian, or indeed whenever one feels like it’s time for a spot of indulgence. For all those who love Bordeaux but also for those still to discover Bordeaux.
