Muscadet Sevre-et-Maine Sur Lie, Selection, Dom. de l'Epinay 2023 12.5% vol
£96.00
Melon de Bourgogne
This is not the Muscadet that perhaps you remember from your younger days – this wine is a class act and deserves a place in everyone’s cellar! Domaine de l’Epinay, a family vineyard since 1900, is now run by two brothers, Cyrille and Sylvain Paquereau. The grapes for their cuvee Selection are organic from 50 year old vines on the famous Clos de la Lozangere plot. Here the vines face south and grow in a very special soil called Gabbro – dark black volcanic granite which helps make this Muscadet Selection so different. Use natural yeast fermentation with maturation in underground vats keeping the wine on it’s lees for around 12 months and then we are ready for take off!
To the eye a brilliant shining yellow with green reflections. On the nose an explosion of citrus fruits, Quince and Lychees. Lively, fresh with a richly textured palate and a delightful length of mineral fruits and aromatic complexity – “its like biting into a crisp Granny Smith’s apple whilst smoking a Havana cigar” as described by one of our clients!
A very versatile wine that works as an aperitif, with all things fishy, white meats and chosen cheeses or even Les Tartes aux Fruits. A wine of pedigree and intrigue that will welcome you back to the pleasures of high quality Muscadet.
