Margaux, Ségla 2018, second wine of Ch. Rauzan- Ségla (6b case) 14% vol.
£216.00
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc
Ch. Rauzan-Ségla has long been one of the top estates in Bordeaux. Classified a Second Growth in the 1855 classification and now owned by Channel, standards are impeccably high! Unsurprisingly, the chateau produces an outstanding second wine, Segla that shows all the stature of the Grand Vin, but with the volume turned slightly down.
The grapes are hand-harvested, double sorted, gently pressed and delivered by gravity flow into the stainless steel fermentation tanks. Then it is aged in French oak barrels of which 20% are new.
The blend of the 2018 is about the same as that of the Chateau’s first wine Rauzan- Ségla but comes from younger vines – the blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 2% of the “seasoning grape” Petit Verdot.
Deep ruby red in appearance, the nose is classic Margaux with lashings of blackcurrant, blueberry and cassis interwoven with rose petals, violets and cedarwood. The palate is medium-bodied elegant and full of succulent black fruits and dark chocolate merging wonderfully with the silky smooth tannins. A wine of great length that gives you extra experiences with each additional glass!
Just starting it’s drinking life now, it will continue to develop whilst always giving you that rather special Margaux treat.
