Margaux, Ségla 2016, second wine of Ch. Rauzan- Ségla (6b case)
£216.00
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc
Ch. Rauzan-Ségla has long been one of the top estates in Bordeaux. Classified a Second Growth in the 1855 classification and now owned by Channel, standards are impeccably high! Unsurprisingly, the chateau produces an outstanding second wine in Ségla and when this comes from the highly regarded 2016 vintage then something rather special awaits the discerning wine drinker.
The grapes are hand-harvested, double sorted, gently pressed and delivered by gravity flow into the stainless steel fermentation tanks. Then it is aged in French oak barrels of which 20% are new.
The blend of Ségla closely matches that of the Chateau’s first wine Rauzan- Ségla but comes from younger vines – the blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot with the balance of the “seasoning grapes” Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc”.
Deep ruby red in appearance, the nose is classic Margaux with lashings of blackcurrant, blueberry and cassis interwoven with rose petals, violets and cedarwood. The palate is medium-bodied elegant and full of succulent black fruits which merge wonderfully with the silky smooth tannins. A wine that you keep coming back to as new sensations are found with each glass!
Just starting its drinking life now, it will continue to develop whilst always giving you that rather special Margaux treat.
