History tells Patrick Merle which plots produce his best grapes each year and he chooses those grapes to make his flagship wine which he calls “Prestige”. This wine is a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc and spends 18 months maturing in new American oak barrels. A wine that could easily fool you into thinking it comes from Napa Valley, California costing more than $100 per bottle!
A deep and intense ruby red with an explosive nose of rich black fruits, harmoniously intertwined with subtle notes of vanilla and toasted oak. On the palate the fruits unfold as notes of coffee and spice begin to develop. The structure is rich and silky with elegant well integrated tannins leading into a long and refreshing finish.
This 2023 vintage is just about leaving nursery school and looking forward to the next 10 years or so of drinking pleasure. A big wine for big food but also surprisingly very drinkable on its own. For the Robert Parkers of the world proving that big can also be beautiful!
