Côtes du Vivarais is the main wine producing area of that most beautiful part of the Rhone Valley – the Ardeche. It is a bit of an insider secret as only the most savvy will know that the Ardeche  is the source of some seriously delicious, great value wines. If you divert inland off the drive south and then survive the stunning canyons and mountain gorges , you will find the small vineyard of young Belgian winemaker Louis de Moerloose.
Le Secret du Hibou  or “the owls secret” is a wine made for relaxed moments with family or friends and perfect for an evening get together.

Organic, hand harvested grapes are blended 50% Syrah and 50% Grenache and fermented in stainless steel vats. Then refined in oak barrels for a year. The result is a stunning Rhone red wine that sings of its heritage at a price that you can hardly believe!  A beautiful garnet colour with a rich nose of black fruits, tingly pepper and warm spices. On the mouth discover wild blackberries and tangy blackcurrants with harmonious smooth tannins supported by well-integrated oak – – a real bombshell of a wine. Still a bit of a baby, this wine will continue to improve over the next few years.
Drink with anything big but surprisingly drinkable on its own. As our friends from the USA would say ” a good buddy wine”.
