Pauillac, Château Pedesclaux 2016 Cinquièmes Grand Cru Classé (6b case)

£264.00

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc

Sitting next to the great estates of Chateau Lafite and Mouton Rothschild, this previously underperforming 5th growth Pauillac has been totally transformed since 2009 by new owners Jacky and Francoise Lorenzetti. Massive financial investments in both vineyard and cellar have resulted in Chateau Pedesclaux being on most “pundits “chateaux to follow” list. Hence at present it represents great value for money against it’s neighbouring superstars, but unfortunately it will only be a matter of time before prices rise accordingly!
The 2016 Pedesclaux is a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. This unusually high level of Merlot for Pauillac makes it particularly accessible for drinking between 5 and 10 years of age but it will also go on for at least another decade. It has a rich and harmonious blackberry and blackcurrant nose with hints of spice and cedarwood. The palate is both fine and fresh with juicy red and black fruits merging effortlessly with smooth tannins.
Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux for those special dinner party occasions at a price that you are unlikely to see again! Alternatively spend £800 plus and buy a bottle from Pedesclaux’s close neighbours Lafite or Mouton!
