This property, once owned by Louis XIV, the “Sun King” before being given to his favourite vassel Sir Lacombe, is situated on the left bank near to where the rivers Dordogne and Garonne merge into the Gironde estuary. Hence very rare Bordeaux Superiéur that is from the left bank Médoc region (95% of Bordeaux Superieur is from the Entre-Deux-Mers region). The vines of this estate are only a few kilometres away from the famous châteaux of Margaux and the wine is vinified and bottled in Margaux!
Carefully selected grapes from 30 year old vines, 15 to 30 days maceration in stainless steel followed by 9 months in oak barrels (old and new French oak) make this a Bordeaux Supérieur that punches well above its weight. A blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon gives a seductive garnet colour with a delicate nose of ripe red and black fruits. On the palate it is soft, full and generous with smooth tannins and balancing freshness. A succulent and long finish helps make this wine a very impressive claret at this price point.
