One of the founding domains in Ventoux ( originally called Dom. Ribas la Font doú Téule) was thankfully re-named Vintur when new owners came along in 2011 and began their investment programme. This is now very much “a Domaine to keep an eye on” according to Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2015. Le Gentleman is a special cuvée made in homage to all those that have completed the famous Tour de France stage – the ascent and descent of Mont Ventoux!
Grapes selected from the oldest vines and fermented in stainless steel. Ageing is then a combination of amphora, stainless steel and old oak barrels for 20 months and a further 6 months in bottle before release, to give a wine of succulence and complexity. Le Gentleman is an organic wine and only made in the best years, so no 2013 or 2014 for example. 2017 was another dry and hot summer in the Rhone Valley, helping to produce concentrated, voluptuous and big hitting wines that are the hallmarks of the region.
Blackcurrant berries leading to spiced ripe forest fruits sprinkled with hints of white pepper and garrigue. In the mouth subtle tannins, opulent fruits, creamy liquorice and with a long elegant finish. At this stage in it’s development it will benefit from some aeration before drinking and it will give great pleasure for years to come! For all big flavoured dishes or even to savour on its own before a summer BBQ or in winter in front of the fire.
