New Arrivals from Burgundy plus our June Bordeaux trip report

09/07/2013

We are pleased to say that our new wines from Burgundy have now safely arrived in our EHD London Bond warehouse.  The four new wines are:

  • Chablis, Tradition La Pierrelée 2011– stunning Chablis that has just won a Gold Medal in 2013 Decanter World Wine Awards
  • Chablis, Grand Cru Les Preuses 2009 – everyone must try GC Chablis at least once, pure luxury!
  • Saint-Véran, Les Sentinelles 2011 – wonderful, vielles vignes white Burgundy. Great value!
  • Côte Chalonnaise Rouge Buissonnier 2011—fine Pinot Noir at a drinkable price

Go to the main wine-list for full tasting notes and prices to be uploaded shortly!

Having just returned from a two week tasting trip to Bordeaux we have the following headlines to report:

  • After two “difficult vintages” in 2011 and 2012, now 2013 for Bordeaux could be even worse. Due to the poor weather down there this year (it’s not just the UK)  the vines are about three weeks behind average. A lot of dry sunshine is now needed to salvage the vintage
  • Regardless of what you may hear from the media and the trade trying to sell you wines, all the vignerons we met believed that they made better wines in 2009 and 2010 than in 2011 and 2012. Hence you will see a lot of Bordeaux 2011`s on the supermarket shelves as they have not sold through and prices have fallen.
  • Consequently we have been buying additional 2009`s and 2010`s whenever we can but availability is falling fast – the answer is to stock up now!
  • We are currently comparing all our notes on the potential new Bordeaux wines that we are considering adding to our list later in the year.  Suffice to say that we have found some real 09 and 2010 gems from both left bank and right bank so we hope to talk more about them later in the summer
