St.Estephe, Château Clauzet 2014 Cru Bourgeois

£132.00

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Baron Maurice Velge bought Château Clauzet in 1997 on condition that famous Bordeaux winemaker José Bueno would become his cellar master. José agreed and after spending 23 years with Baron Philippe de Rothschild he went to Ch. Clauzet .
“Mouton is one of the best schools there is for learning every aspect of quality, down to the finest detail. I am familiar with all the techniques used to make a first growth and was immediately attracted by the challenge at Château Clauzet, which has a superb terroir — everything we do at Château Clauzet is on a par with any of the first growths.”
So with use of the Mouton Rothschild toolbox, low yielding old vines, hand-picking, long 21 day maceration and aging in French oak barrels for 18 months (50% new) a classic claret emerges with that rare extra attribute – a very affordable price!
A 89-91 scoring wine from Neil Martin, Robert Parker “The Ch. Clauzet 2014 has a perfumed and generous bouquet with lively blackberry and blueberry fruit that reveals real precocity. The palate is medium – bodied with soft and supple tannin and nicely integrated oak. A fine little St Estèphe, a viable and daresay more affordable alternative to the big names”
A serious Bordeaux wine for lovers of classic claret that is made to drink and enjoy– rather than to admire an expensive label!
