Pinot Noir
Father and son team Pierre and Bertrand Riffault (producers of our very popular Sauvignon Blanc Sancerre) make a small amount of red wine each year from the illustrious Pinot Noir grape. Whilst most would regard Sancerre as a famous white wine region, this is in fact quite a recent phenomenon. Before phylloxera destroyed the regions rootstocks Sancerre was famous throughout Europe for it’s Pinot Noir red wines. Nowadays the vast majority of this very versatile red is consumed locally and within Paris, hence little is available for export.
After vinification in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks the wine is aged for one year before about 50% is further aged in old oak barrels and then finally blended. This is a ruby red beguiling wine full of red berry fruits and aromatic charm. Ripe, juicy and with super soft tannins  and a spicy vanilla and pepper twist in the fine long finish.  Drink slightly chilled with mild cheeses or poultry or indeed on its own the next time you are invited to the Royal Box at either Ascot or Wimbledon!
Drink and enjoy throughout the summer or whenever you are wanting to think about the summer on rainy days.
