Sancerre Domaine du Carroir Perrin 2017

February 9, 2018

Sauvignon Blanc

Father and son team Pierre and Bertrand Riffault have again crafted a classic Sancerre in 2017 from their vineyard in the rolling hills of Verdigny , just north of Sancerre. Over 20 small, sloping plots of land enable them to blend different terroirs — limestone pebbles for fresh fruity wines and flint for minerality and maturity.
A well balanced wine full of lime and citrus fruits, with the typical Sancerre nose of green fruits and cherry blossom. A long refreshing finish, delicious when young but developing more complex flavours when kept for a couple of years – during a recent visit Pierre proudly demonstrated how well a 1986 Sancerre had fared although 25 years storeage is somewhat excessive!
During April/May each year we eagerly await the latest vintage from Domain Carroir Perrin, as most years both the vineyard and ourselves will have “sold out” notices posted by the following March if not before!
This is a versatile wine  that can be appreciated on its own as well as with a diverse range of foods such as shellfish, pork with apple, creamy fish dishes, oriental foods and of course the famous  Crottin de Chavignol, the local fromage Chèvre.
A wine to refresh, revive and enjoy – but be quick before it all goes!
