Pouilly Fuissé Domaine Guerrin, La Maréchaude 2014

December 24, 2016

Maurice and Nadine Guerrin have one of the most spectacular vineyards in France. Their property  sits above the village of Vergisson with views of the distant Alps framed by the world famous heritage sites of the Roche de Vergisson and Roche de Solutré.
The wines of Pouilly Fuissé are consumed by lovers of fine chardonnay throughout the world, all looking for that unique combination of smokey yellow fruits , spices and nuts with luscious toast and buttery overtones.  It really is a case of chalk and cheese compared to the vast oceans of industrial supermarket chardonnay that has unfortunately created the “ABC” (anything but chardonnay) generation!
Old chardonnay vines averaging 60 years are hand harvested and vinified in old oak barrels on the lees for 10 to 12 months. Opulence, richness, power and smoothness are all characteristics – warm aromas of white peach, honeyed pears and pineapple. Sweet spices and freshly cracked nuts mingle with hints of smoke.
A regular award winner in the Guide Hachette (the French wine bible) this wine has a deserved place in any wine cellar!  Wonderful with fish, white meats and big creamy sauces but it can also be enjoyed on its own in peaceful bliss.
Once experienced there is no going back to the mundane!  Drink now—2024
