Pauillac, Château Pedesclaux 2015 Cinquièmes Grand Cru Classé (6b case)

Pauillac, Château Pedesclaux 2015 Cinquièmes Grand Cru Classé (6b case)

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Sitting next to the great estates of Chateau Lafite and Mouton Rothschild, this previously under performing 5th growth Pauillac has been totally transformed since 2009 by new owners Jacky and Francoise Lorenzetti. Massive financial investments in both vineyard and cellar have resulted in Chateau Pedesclaux being on most pundits  “chateaux to follow” list. Hence at present it represents great value for money against it’s neighbouring superstars but unfortunately it will only be a matter of time before prices rise accordingly!
The 2015 Pedesclaux is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 6% Petit Verdot that has spent 18 months in barrel, 60 % new oak and 40% one year old. This unusually high level of Merlot for Pauillac makes it particularly accessible for drinking between 5 and 10 years of age but it will also go on for at least another decade.
Medium garnet-purple in colour it has a rich and harmonious blackberry and blackcurrant nose with hints of spice and cedarwood. The palate is both fine and fresh with juicy red and black fruits, smooth tannins and a long succulant finish.
Grand Cru Classé Bordeaux for those special dinner party occasions at a price that you are unlikely to see again!
