Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, Chateau La Brande 2018 (6b case)

Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, Chateau La Brande 2018 (6b case)

Merlot, Cabinet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot

The vines of Chateau La Brande are grown on the same limestone plateau as the best vines of  St. Emilion, which is just next door. So we are really in quality St. Emilion territory here rather than Castillon –  a sort of insiders secret!  On harvest the grapes make the short journey over the appellation border to be vinified and matured at Chateau Mangot by brothers Karl and Yann Todeschini.
The organic vines are on average 35 years old, grapes manually sorted and fermented with natural yeasts and minimal use of sulphur. Maturation for 12 months with 1/3rd tank and 2/3rd French oak barrels – the final blend is 67% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc, 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot.
This rich, plush and juicy wine is full of black fruits and plum flavours with touches of toasted spice.  All underlined by well integrated tannins with a long savoury finish. It can be enjoyed now or left for additional development over a couple of years!
The classic Bordeaux blending and balancing act to achieve that perfect harmony of ripe fruits, acidic backbone and long lived tannins that we all love.
Perfect for the British palate – simply great value Right Bank Claret!
