Cabardès, Chateau de Bagnoles, Majelus 2019 (6b Case)

£78.00

Grenache Noir, Syrah, Merlot
We find it quite stunning that the Panis family have been growing grapes and making wine at this property, on the outskirts of the medieval city of Carcassonne, for around 500 years. They produce our very popular Minervoiswine but they also have a small vineyard nearby in the very interesting AOC Cabardès region.
Cabardes is the youngest appellation in the Languedoc, not so hot as the other regions and also influenced by the maritime climate of the Atlantic – a sort of cross-roads between Bordeaux and Languedoc. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, relatively rare in the Languedoc but perfectly at home here where they marry effortlessly with the more traditional Mediterranean Syrah and Grenache. The result is wines with Bordeaux tension and Languedoc warmth- in short the best of both worlds.
Majelus is a warming garnet red coloured wine with purple reflections. An aromatic nose of fresh blackberries, liquorice and vanilla. Big and bold on the palate with spicy fruits and soft tannins leading into a long and expressive finish.
A “sexy black dress” style of wine!
