Bordeaux Classics

With over 13,000 vineyards producing over 800 million bottles of wine per year, Bordeaux has everything --- from the "great" to the "not so great". Our mission is therefore quite simple -- to find those special wines from special vineyards that represent Bordeaux at it's finest in terms of taste, quality, tradition and overall great value for money. All of our Bordeaux Classic wines come directly from small artisanal producers who are serious and passionate about their viticulture and who are making great wines at appealing value for money prices.

Chateau Henri 2007
Bordeaux Rouge

Merlot
This smooth 100% Merlot comes from a tiny parcel of Patrick Merle's land that produces only 8,000 bottles per year. The vast majority is consumed locally by the Bordelaise as it is great value, easy drinking claret that will both interest and surprise you.
Red and black fruits in silky harmony, this Bordeaux rouge is just perfect for the mid-week "take -away"!

Chateau de Fontenille 2009
Bordeaux Clairet (Rosé)

Cabernet Franc, Merlot
Deep blush and incredibly luminous, fragrant and floral; rarely seen now in the UK but for 300 years the major wine of Aquitaine and hence the origin of the English nickname claret.
Cherry and raspberry on the palate give a fuller bodied, rounded fruitiness combined with savoury herb aromas on the nose. The extra long three day maceration in contact with the skins and the skills of master winemaker Stephane Defraine, make this a blockbuster example of a  "rosé style wine" with real depth and character.
The perfect match for all ethnic foods, barbecues and al fresco dining but also great on its own ice-cold on the terrace. Pure bottled seduction!
Awarded 4 stars by Decanter in the 2010 "Rosé & Clairet de Bordeaux" SummerTasting.

Chateau de Fontenille Blanc 2009
Entre-deux-Mers

Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Gris
A regular Decanter Award winner, Stephane Defraine's Entre-deux-Mers leads the way in showing how good this wine can be when made with loving care and attention to detail. Semillon provides the body, Sauvignon Blanc the nerve and acidity, with Muscadelle giving the lovely aromatic flavours and 15% Sauvignon Gris adding elegance!
Fresh and fruity with light acidity, the citrus and peach flavours come storming through to give a wine perfect with fish but also very enjoyable on it's own.
A wine for all seasons!

Chateau du Champ des Treilles 2006 Le Petit Champ Rouge
Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux

Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Petit Verdot
Passionate believers in the power of nature and biodynamic methods, Corinne and Jean-Michel Comme's Petit Champ red  is bursting with the decadent flavour of Petit Verdot. A grape more  usually found in the most expensive wines of the Medoc, making this wine a really special find. A style more typical of the left bank Medoc but this from the eastern fringes of the right bank, bordering Duras.
Garnet and deep ruby in colour; seductive aromas of ripe fruits with just a kiss of liquorice. The tannins are prominent for longer ageing, the wine complex and very pleasurable but benefits from decanting.
A wine for the connoisseur.

Chateau du Champ des Treilles 2008 Vin Passion Blanc
Sainte-Foy-Bordeaux

Sauvignon, Semillon, Muscadelle
Married to the technical director at the illustrious Ch. Pontet Canet in Pauillac, Corinne Comme produces her own biodynamic wines at the family vineyard in Margueron. She is a very well informed and passionate vigneron combining innovative use of her cepages, a mix of old and younger vines with a thorough understanding of traditional regional viticulture.
A beautifully balanced blend of equal proportions of
Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle with a strong citrus, grapefruit and almond bouquet, teasing you towards a delightful finish of white flowers, peach and apricot.
A wonderful taste of summer regardless of the month or the weather!

Chateau Lafleur Beausejour 2007
Côtes de Castillon

Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Nathalie and Hervé Largeteau's small vineyard is in St-Magne-de Castillon, probably the best village in the appellation as it is literally a stones throw away from Grand Cru St Emilion terroir. A husband and wife team of artisan vignerons, they are the 4th generation of the family to run the estate and they delight in producing a silky smooth, classic right-bank Bordeaux wine, of exceptional value.
A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc from vines averaging over 25 years old with low yields and long maturation produces a wine with fruit to enjoy now but with real body and ageing potential. Deep ruby red with a flattering nose of ripe cherry and plums, Lafleur Beausejour is easy to drink yet interesting with ripe fruits, round tannins and a swirling finish.
A signature red Bordeaux wine.

Chateau les Cabannes 2007
St Emilion
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
A lovely fresh and fruity modern Bordeaux made by a self-confessed crazy guy. Toronto born winemaker Peter Kjellberg trained at the University of Bordeaux, followed by a spell at Ch. Haut Brionand then in the 1997 he purchased 7 hectares of land in St Sulpice-de-Faleyrens, next door to the famous Ch. Monbousquet.  Along with his fellow winemaker wife he proceeded to start from scratch and re-plant the whole vineyard.
His wines have developed a cult following as they are vibrant, fresh and fruity and very approachable for those who prefer a more modern style of Merlot. Soft and supple flavours of red and black fruits, kisses of chocolate, liquorice and violet with a fine finish.  A harmonious wine with delicate tannins that is very drinkable on its own but man enough for most red meat dishes.
Try les Cabannes now and support the crazy Canadian living in Bordeaux!

Chateau Jean Gué 2008
Lalande de Pomerol
Merlot
We can guarantee that you will never have seen nor tried this wine before - that is because it is the first ever production of Jean Gué by renowned vigneron Patrick Merle. Using colder maceration of 100% Merlot grapes his new style wine is designed to be modern and very fruity for earlier enjoyable drinking.
Bottled only in May 2010, this is Patrick's own description: "this aromatic nectar will beguile you with it's luscious flavour, ruby robe and expressive bouquet. A nose rich with fragrence of cherries and ripe blackberries confers on Ch. Jean Gué an unusual and original character."
"Coup de Coeur" according to Patrick or, en Anglais "Love at first taste".
