Bordeaux Prestige

Bordeaux is quite simply the most important wine area in the world.  We offer prestige red wines of exceptional value and quality, mainly from smaller independent vignerons; both from the Merlot dominated "Right Bank" area of Pomerol and  St. Emilion and also from the "Left Bank" where Cabernet Sauvignon takes the lead in the Medoc and Haut-Medoc, home of the famed St.Julien, Margaux, Pauillac and St.Estephe appellations.
Also from the "Left Bank" a small selection of second wines from Grand Cru Classé Châteaux purchased directly through our Negociant in Bordeaux.  These wines allow Claret lovers access to serious wines from the same terroir and winemakers as some of the finest and most expensive in the world. Typically made with the same care but from younger vines for earlier drinking, rather than waiting 10years + for the Grand Vin and often at less than a third of the price of the estates "first wine".

Chateau des Graviers 2004
Margaux Cru Artisan
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc.
Margaux is generally regarded as the "most feminine" of all the famous Medoc wines.  That is to say demonstrating delicacy, suppleness, fine fruit and elegant aromas.
This small 7 hectare estate in the Arsac region of Margaux has been in the Dufourg-Landry family for 4 generations.  Traditional quality Bordeaux winemaking means a cepage of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and just 5% Cabernet Franc.  Vines with an average age of 30 years, manual harvesting plus sorting, 20 to 28 days maceration and ageing 100% in oak barrels for 18 months( quarter new).
Silky and seductive with layers of ripe berry fruits.  Herbal nuances and exotic spice notes leads into a lovely meandering finish.
This is quality Cru Artisan Margaux at a great price!

Chateau Béhèré 2007
Pauillac Cru Artisan

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Perhaps the only cult wine in the region, this is the nearest most of us will ever get to tasting Lafite, Latour or Mouton-Rothschild!  This tiny 3 Hectare estate in the northern Pauillac hamlet of Le Pouyalet is surrounded by world famous First Growths. Cru Artisan winemaker Jean-Gabriel Camou was born in the area, developed his skills at Lynch-Bages and began with his own property in 1994.
Hand picked organically grown grapes bottled at the estate and sold only to a select group of clients, Chateau Béheré is described in a famous New York restaurant as "pure class in a glass".
A classic Bordeaux cepage with each variety fermented separately in stainless steel tanks then blended in French oak barrels (one-third new) for 12 to 16 months. Wonderful Pauillac aromas of ripe berry fruits, pencil shavings, violets, spice and vanilla - and then you get to taste!  Power and depth yet suave and sophisticated with an explosive complexity of head-spinning flavours and richness.  Drink on it's own or with anything---its a cult wine!

Hauts de Pontet-Canet 2006
Second wine of Chateau Pontet-Canet, Pauillac

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
Ch. Pontet-Canet is undoubtedly one of the rising stars amongst the elite wines of the Medoc. It has recently become the first Classified Growth to operate to biodynamic principles and we were privileged to be given a personal tour of the Chateau by Technical Director, Jean Michel Comme.
Hauts de Pontet-Canet, the second wine of the estate, has been made since 1982 and provides most of the pleasures of the first wine but at an affordable price. An intense beautiful ruby-red colour with a complex nose full of red and black berry fruits, liquorice and cedar. 12 months in French oak barrels gives a palate rich and supple with classic Pauillac structure and a long finish.
Just beginning its life now but will develop added complexity and interest over the next 5 years.
Available in original 6b wooden cases.

Second wine of Chateau Talbot. St Julien
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc.
Named after Constable Talbot, famed English warrior of the Battle of Castillon, this wine reflects its parentage and its breeding.  Connetable is a class act that was first produced in 1979 and regularly punches above it's weight.
Dark plum notes on the nose, copious quantities of blueberry fruit, light on vanilla with mild spices.
More affordable luxury in original 12b wooden cases.

Chateau Micalet 2001
Haut-Medoc Cru Artisan

Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot
This tiny vineyard, known since the 19th century as a Cru Artisan is located in Cussac-Fort-Medoc, a village with outstanding terroir sandwiched between the legendary appellations of St. Julien and Margaux. A rare chance to enjoy Bordeaux greatness at a very drinkable price!
The Fedieu brothers are now converting their vineyard to organic status, use only manual harvesting and their wine is aged for 12 months minimum in oak barrels. The 2001 is magnificent traditional claret, drinking nicely now but will cellar for many more years.  A rich, spicy nose followed by a swirl of vanilla. The mouth is full of jammy fruits, cassis and balanced with long, round tannins and a silky layer of dark chocolate to get lost in.
Decanter World Wine Awards 2010 Bronze Medal and  selected by Decanter as one of the best value Clarets in the UK in their "50 top-scoring UK buys for under £20."

Chateau des Moines 2004
Lalande De Pomerol
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec
Just a wedge north of Pomerol itself, the best wines from Lalande-de-Pomerol offer the lovers of big, soft Merlot based wines, not just an affordable alternative to high priced Pomerol, but a delightful enhancement to a hearty supper, a wine for the shoot and the best friend of Sunday roasts.
Concentrated wooded fruits, black cherry and cassis; plush well defined tannins, black olive and smooth roasted expresso, give a finale of dark fruit that is rich and lasting.
Patrick Merle is a producer of excellence and this wine is both exquisitely balanced and interestingly complex.

Chateau La Rose Monturon 2007
St. Emilion

Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc
In 2005 Myriam and Stephane Dubes inherited some small plots of vines in St Emilion surrounded by famous names like Ch. Pavie and Ch. Larcis Ducasse and produced their first wines literally " in a little garage". In 2007 they were able to purchase a property with their own "chais", a cellar and a home.
La Rose Monturon is a wine of quality and finesse, a style that has made St. Emilion famous and popular world wide but without the crazy price tag! Many of the vines are over 50 years old and from Grand Cru plots. Low yields, long maceration and 12 months in French oak result in a wine of supreme balance and harmony.
Ruby red with a welcoming cherry nose, this wine is incredibly drinkable now but will age well. Soft fruits, supple tannins, medium length with slight "oakiness" this wine will displease nobody and impress many. With a total production of up to only 8,000 bottles annually, this is a Bordeaux and Beyond special discovery.
A real "garigiste" wine that we can all afford!

Chateau de L'Ombriere 2006
Pomerol
Merlot, Cabernet Franc
With the top châteaux fetching record prices and selling to oligarchs around the world, you would be correct in thinking that all prices in this tiny region have also rocketed accordingly. It is therefore with a certain smugness that we can offer you the chance to taste delicious Pomerol at an absurdly friendly price. We quickly sold out of the 2004 and 2005 and are now pleased to offer our allocation from 2006 which is just starting it's drinking life now.
The unique soil and drainage in Pomerol lend this wine a superb structure, a sublime depth and great length.  A bouquet of rich and tantalising aromas, including fine leather and cedar, seductive tastes of blueberry, bramble fruits, vanilla and mild spices.
Made for hedonists!
