Bordeaux En Primeur 2009
We have just completed our first and extremely successful en-primeur offer. We sold out of our first consignment within 3 days of the offer and managed to secure a small further consignment from our Negociant in Bordeaux which was also quickly snapped up. Hardly surprising as 2009 Bordeaux is regarded as being a very special vintage, both for drinking quality and investment purposes. The wine is a Cru Bourgeois, Ch.d`Aurilhac, highly rated by both Robert Parker and Steven Spurrier, comes in wooden cases and available from us for only £15 per bottle all-in. We have an outstanding request for any additional allocations that may come available so please contact us directly for the latest position.
Indeed an amazing offer and congratulations to all those smart clients that have secured supplies.
New Wines
Following our recent trip to Bordeaux we are extremely excited about finding three special new wines for our list. They fit our rigorous criteria for selection perfectly and one in particular is so good, and in such limited supply, that we have debated about keeping it all for our own personal pleasure over the next few years!
The three new wines are:-
St.Emilion
Ch. les Cabannes 2007
Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
This is a lovely fresh and fruity modern Bordeaux made by a self-confessed “crazy guy”. Toronto born winemaker Peter Kjellberg trained at the University of Bordeaux, followed by a spell at Ch. Haut-Brion and then in 1997 he purchased 7 hectares of land in St-Sulpice-de-Faleyrens next door to the famous Ch.Monbousquet. Along with his fellow winemaker wife Brigitte he proceeded to start from scratch and re-plant the whole vineyard.
His wines have developed a cult following as they are vibrant, fresh and fruity and very approachable for those who prefer a more “modern style of Merlot”. Full of soft and supple flavours of red and black fruits with a good finish. A harmonious wine with delicate tannins that is very drinkable on it’s own but man enough for most red meat dishes.

Margaux
Ch. des Graviers 2004
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Margaux is generally regarded as the “most feminine” of all the famous Medoc wines-that is to say demonstrating delicacy, suppleness, fruit and elegant aromas.
This small 7 hectare estate in the Arsac region of Margaux has been in the Duforg-Landry family for 4 generations. Traditional quality Bordeaux winemaking means a cepage of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Vines with an average age of 30 years, manual harvesting plus sorting, 20 to 28 days maceration and ageing 100% oak barrels for 18 months (quarter new).
Silky and seductive with layers of ripe berry fruits. Herbal nuances and exotic spice notes leads into a lovely meandering finish.
This is quality Cru Artisan Margaux at a great price!

Pauillac
Ch. Béheré 2007
Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
Perhaps the only cult wine in the region this is the nearest most of us will ever get to tasting Lafite, Latour or Mouton-Rothschild. This tiny 3 hectare estate in the northern Pauillac hamlet of Le Pouyalet is surrounded by world famous First Growths. Cru Artisan winemaker Jean-Gabriel Camou was born in the area, developed his skills at Lynch-Bages and began on his own in 1994.
Hand-picked, organically grown grapes bottled at the Estate and sold only to a select group of clients Chateau Béheré is described in a famous New York restaurant as pure “class in a glass”.
The classic Bordeaux grape cepage all fermented separately in stainless steel tanks then blended in French oak barrels (one-third new) for twelve to sixteen months. Wonderful Pauillac aromas of ripe mixed berry fruits, pencil shavings, violets, spice and vanilla and then you get to taste. Power, muscle yet suave and sophisticated with an explosive complexity of head-spinning flavours and richness. Drink on it’s own or with anything --- it’s a cult wine!
